Some Medicare Advantage plans include the Silver&Fit® Healthy Aging and Exercise program at no additional cost to members. Depending on your plan, that can mean a membership at a participating gym, on-demand workout videos, and a home fitness kit mailed to your door — including a wearable fitness tracker like a Fitbit® or Garmin®.
A lot of people have this benefit and never use it. Here's exactly how to get set up.
Step 1: Confirm your plan includes Silver&Fit
Not every Medicare Advantage plan uses Silver&Fit — some plans use a different fitness program, and some don't include one at all. Look for the fitness benefit in your plan's Summary of Benefits or Evidence of Coverage, or call the member services number on the back of your card.
Step 2: Have your member ID card handy
You'll register with the member ID from your health plan card — not your red, white, and blue Medicare card.
Step 3: Register at SilverandFit.com
Go to SilverandFit.com and create an account using your member ID. If you'd rather not sign up online, call the Silver&Fit phone number listed in your plan's benefit materials and a representative can register you. (TTY users can dial 711.)
Step 4: Choose a gym, a home kit, or both
Once you're registered, you can search for participating fitness centers near you — there are options around Richmond, Sugar Land, and the greater Houston area — and print or download your Silver&Fit card to bring with you. You can also browse the home fitness kit options available with your plan.
Step 5: Select the wearable fitness tracker kit
In the home fitness kit section, choose the Fitbit or Garmin wearable fitness tracker kit. After you make your selection, you'll receive an online promo code along with instructions for redeeming it.
Step 6: Redeem your code on the vendor's Silver&Fit page
Follow the link in your instructions to the vendor's dedicated Silver&Fit store page and enter your promo code to place the order. Note that the code can't be combined with other promotions on the vendor's website.
Step 7: Watch your mailbox
Kits are typically mailed within about 10 days after you redeem the code. If there's a problem with the order itself after you've redeemed the code, contact the vendor's customer support listed on its Silver&Fit page.
Quick tips before you start
- Timing matters. Kit benefits generally reset each benefit year. If you already chose a different kit this year, you'll usually need to wait until the new year to select the tracker.
- Options can change. Kit choices and fitness programs can change from one plan year to the next, so confirm what's on your menu when you log in.
- Check your favorite gym. If you're attached to a specific gym, search for it on SilverandFit.com before assuming it participates.
- Unused benefits don't roll over. If your plan includes this program, it's worth using.
Reviewing your plan this fall?
Fitness programs are a nice extra, but they shouldn't be the only reason to pick a plan. During the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7), it's worth weighing extra benefits alongside your doctors, prescriptions, and total costs for the coming year.
